Working in Kerrville
Land work in Kerrville
Kerr County is Guadalupe River country: ranches on cedar-covered hills, creeks that run hard after a storm, and roads and crossings that have to stand up to it.
The calls that fit here are cedar clearing for grass and wildlife, stock tanks, ranch roads and the low-water crossings and culverts that keep them open.

Local know-how
What to know before land work in Kerrville
Rules, ground and timing that change how the work is done here. Sources are linked.
Roads and crossings
The July 2025 floods showed how fast the water can come up here, with the Guadalupe rising about 21 feet in an hour at Kerrville (Wikipedia). Roads that last move water off with crowns, ditches and culverts sized to the flow, and crossings are built to be driven only when the water is low. See ranch road drainage. Never drive into moving water: 12 inches can carry away most cars (NWS).
Cedar and wildlife
Selective clearing keeps the cover deer use. TPWD suggests a mix of about two parts open to one part woody cover (TPWD Appendix E). See cedar and brush clearing.
Stock tanks
Soil decides whether a tank holds. The NRCS pond handbook warns that limestone areas are hazardous for ponds, so we check first (NRCS).
No TCEQ Edwards plan
Kerr County is not on TCEQ's Edwards Aquifer list (TCEQ RG-11). County burn bans still apply: check the burn ban map.
