Working in Boerne

Land work in Boerne

Boerne grew 70 percent in ten years, and Kendall County kept growing after that. Much of the new building is on Hill Country acreage that starts out covered in cedar, so clearing, pads and drives come before anything else.

The county sits on the Edwards Plateau: rocky ground, cedar on the slopes and oaks worth keeping. That shapes how land is cleared and whether a stock tank will hold.

Local know-how

What to know before land work in Boerne

Rules, ground and timing that change how the work is done here. Sources are linked.

01

New homesites on old ranch land

Most Boerne-area homesites start with the same run of work: cedar and brush cleared with the oaks kept, a drive in, a pad cut and the water sent away from the house. One outfit doing all of it means the steps happen in the right order. See building pads.

02

Not the Bexar County rules

TCEQ's Edwards Aquifer rules cover Bexar, Medina, Comal and five other counties, but not Kendall (TCEQ RG-11). That removes one layer of paperwork that land just south of the county line can face. City rules inside Boerne still apply, so check with the city before clearing in town.

03

Stock tanks on the plateau

Plateau ground can be rocky, and the NRCS pond handbook warns that limestone areas are hazardous for ponds (NRCS). Tanks here start with a test hole. See stock tanks in Kendall County.

04

Burning in Kendall County

Kendall County's commissioners set burn bans, lifting one in January 2026 (Community Impact) after earlier bans such as the July 2023 drought ban (KSAT). Check the burn ban map before planning a burn.

Do the Edwards Aquifer rules apply in Boerne?

TCEQ's Edwards Aquifer rules do not cover Kendall County. City of Boerne rules still apply inside the city, so check with the city before clearing in town.

Can I burn brush in Kendall County?

When no burn ban is in place and TCEQ's conditions are met, burning cleared brush on site is allowed outside city limits. Kendall County bans come and go, so check the Texas A&M Forest Service map first.

Can you build a stock tank near Boerne?

Yes. Soil decides whether a tank holds, so we check it first. See stock tanks in Kendall County.
