Working in Bandera
Land work in Bandera
Bandera County is ranch country: cedar on the hills, live oaks in the draws, the Medina River running through, and a lot of land that needs water, roads and open pasture to be worth running.
It is also one of the two areas our Facebook page names, along with Helotes, and SH 16 runs straight between the two. Cedar clearing, stock tanks, ranch roads, shredding and pads for new homes are the calls that fit this county.
Two things shape the work here right now: the burn ban, which decides what happens to brush piles, and the water, which decides how deep a tank needs to be.

Local know-how
What to know before land work in Bandera
Rules, ground and timing that change how the work is done here. Sources are linked.
Brush piles and the burn ban
With a county burn ban in effect from August 27, 2026, open burning is off the table until it lifts (News 4 San Antonio). Cleared brush can be stacked to wait for a legal burn, or hauled off. See burning brush piles during a burn ban.
Water for stock and wildlife
In a dry county, a stock tank is only as good as its depth and its soil. The NRCS pond handbook says ponds should be deeper where a year-round supply is essential, and warns that limestone areas can drain a pond (NRCS). See stock tanks in Bandera County.
Cedar and wildlife on the plateau
Bandera County is on the Edwards Plateau, where TPWD's wildlife guidelines suggest clearing 50 percent or less of the brush when deer are the goal (TPWD). Selective clearing keeps the cover that makes hunting land worth having.
No TCEQ Edwards plan here
TCEQ's Edwards Aquifer rules do not cover Bandera County (TCEQ RG-11), so clearing and dirt work here do not need the Edwards Aquifer Protection Plan that land in Bexar or Medina County can.
