Clearing ranch land in Bandera County
Bandera County is big ranch land on the Edwards Plateau, much of it crowded with cedar and brush. Clearing opens pasture, makes room for roads and tanks, and gets a place back under control.
Brush pile burns are part of how we clear, as our Facebook photos show. In Bandera County right now, that part waits: the county burn ban took effect on August 27, 2026 (News 4 San Antonio).

What changes in Bandera
Clearing during the burn ban
The ban does not stop clearing. It changes the ending. Cleared brush can be stacked in piles placed for a safe, legal burn later, or hauled off. When the ban lifts, the piles can be burned under TCEQ's conditions (TCEQ GI-415). Read burning brush during a burn ban.
Where to put the piles
A pile that will be burned later should sit downwind of, or at least 300 feet from, any neighbor's occupied building unless they agree in writing, and away from the oaks you are keeping (AgriLife).
Clearing for wildlife
On the Edwards Plateau, TPWD suggests clearing 50 percent or less of the brush when deer are the goal and keeping cover connected (TPWD). Selective clearing keeps a hunting place worth hunting.

The county decides that. Check the Texas A&M Forest Service burn ban map for the current status.
Do you clear cedar too?
Yes. See cedar clearing in Bandera.
