Land clearing, Boerne

Land clearing in Boernefor new homesites.

Land clearing for homesites and acreage around Boerne. Kendall County sits outside TCEQ's Edwards rules, which keeps clearing simpler than next door in Bexar, but burn bans and the oaks still shape the job.

Land clearing, Boerne

Clearing for Boerne's growth

Boerne grew 70.5 percent from 2010 to 2020, and much of that growth is new homes on Hill Country acreage (Wikipedia). Before a builder can start, the lot needs the cedar and brush out, the oaks kept, and a clear route for the drive.

Clearing here is often lighter-touch than on a ranch: thinning rather than stripping, so the homesite keeps its shade and privacy.

What changes in Boerne

01

No TCEQ Edwards plan

TCEQ's Edwards Aquifer rules cover Bexar, Medina, Comal and other counties, but not Kendall (TCEQ RG-11). Clearing a Kendall County homesite does not need the Edwards Aquifer Protection Plan that a lot a few miles south might. City rules inside Boerne still apply, so check with the city before clearing in town.

02

Burn bans come and go

Kendall County's commissioners lifted a burn ban in January 2026 (Community Impact) and have put bans back in dry spells, as in July 2023 (KSAT). Brush piles wait for a legal burn or get hauled. Inside city limits, burning needs the city's OK (AgriLife).

03

Homesite clearing, not scraping

On a homesite the trees you keep are part of the value. Keepers are marked, the clearing is laid out around the house pad and drive, and the rest is thinned rather than scraped bare.

04

Oak season

Oak wilt is a risk anywhere oaks are wounded in spring. The Texas A&M Forest Service advises no wounds from February through June, and paint on every wound (Texas A&M Forest Service).

Do I need a permit to clear land in Boerne?

TCEQ's Edwards rules do not cover Kendall County. Inside the City of Boerne, check with the city before clearing. Outside the city, ask the county about any local rules.

Can I burn brush piles near Boerne?

Outside city limits, when no Kendall County ban is in place and TCEQ's conditions are met, yes. Check the Texas A&M Forest Service map first.

Can you thin rather than clear everything?

Yes. Selective clearing keeps the shade and privacy that make a Hill Country homesite worth having.
