Demolition
Down, hauled off,
and ready to build.
Demolition is part of what Highlander Construction does: the company's Facebook page lists it right alongside excavation, land management and construction.
On rural land and older homesites, demolition is often the first step of a bigger job. The old structure comes down and goes away, then the lot is cleared, graded and ready for a pad, a drive or open ground.
Every demolition job is different, so it starts with what the structure is, what it is made of, and how we get to it. Not sure if we handle it? Call and ask.
What the work covers
What demolition covers
Not sure if we handle it? Call and ask.
Structure removal
The structure taken down safely. Tell us what it is and we will talk it through.
Haul-off
Debris loaded and hauled away for disposal. Demolition waste is never burned.
Site cleanup
Leftover debris picked up and the area cleaned so it is safe to use.
Clearing around it
Brush and overgrowth around an old homesite cleared at the same time. See land clearing.
How it is done
How a demolition job runs
- 01
Tell us what it is
The structure, what it is made of, its size, and how a machine gets to it.
- 02
Utilities and permits
Utilities disconnected by the providers, and any city or county permits in place first.
- 03
Take it down
The structure brought down and the debris loaded out.
- 04
Clean and grade
The site cleaned up and graded ready for what comes next.
Demolition debris is never burned
Brush from land clearing can be burned under the right conditions. Demolition waste cannot. TCEQ is plain about it: never burn construction or demolition waste, treated lumber or shingles (TCEQ GI-415). The general outdoor burning rules also ban tires, treated lumber and plastics (Texas A&M AgriLife).
So the debris from a demolition is loaded and hauled away for proper disposal, even on rural land where brush piles can be burned.
Before the machine starts
- Utilities. Power, gas and water to the structure are disconnected by the providers before work starts.
- Permits. Cities can require a demolition permit. Check with the city or county before work is scheduled.
- Trees. Inside San Antonio and its ETJ the tree ordinance applies to construction and tree removal, so protected trees near the structure need planning (City of San Antonio).
- What is inside. Anything you want to keep comes out first.
We point you to the right office. The permit decision is theirs.
After the demolition
Once the structure is gone, the lot can go straight on to the next step: cleared, graded, a new pad cut and a drive put in. One outfit, one schedule.

Questions
Demolition questions
Can you burn the debris on site?
No. TCEQ says construction and demolition waste, treated lumber and shingles are never to be burned. Demolition debris is hauled off.
What can you demolish?
Tell us what needs to come down: what it is, what it is made of and how we get to it. Not sure if we handle it? Call and ask.
Do I need a permit to demolish a building?
Cities can require one. Check with your city or county before work is scheduled. We will point you to the right office.
Who disconnects the utilities?
The utility providers disconnect power, gas and water to the structure before work starts.
Can you get the lot ready to build on after?
Yes. Clearing, grading, a new pad and a drive are all part of our work.
