Demolition, San Antonio

Taking a structure down in San Antonio

Demolition in the city means permits, neighbors, trees and haul-off, all handled before and after the part where the structure comes down.

On the northwest side and in the ETJ, a demolition can be one step in clearing acreage for something new, so it runs straight into clearing, grading and a new pad.

Highlander Construction is based next door in Helotes and serves San Antonio. Tell us what needs to come down.

What changes in San Antonio

01

Permits

Cities can require a demolition permit. Check with the City of San Antonio's development services before work is scheduled. We will point you to the right office.

02

Debris is hauled, never burned

TCEQ says construction and demolition waste, treated lumber and shingles are never to be burned (TCEQ GI-415). Bexar County's burn restrictions add to that in the unincorporated county (Bexar County).

03

Trees near the structure

The city tree ordinance applies to construction and tree removal in the city and the ETJ (City of San Antonio). Protected trees near the structure are planned around, and oaks are not wounded from February to July.

04

Over the aquifer

If the lot is over the recharge zone, the rebuild will run into SAWS and TCEQ rules, so it helps to know before the demolition (SAWS, TCEQ).
